Professional Home Network Installation Across London & the Home Counties

As CEDIA-accredited smart home specialists, Modal AV designs and installs professional network infrastructure for luxury homes across London and the Home Counties. From Georgian townhouses in Mayfair to country estates in Berkshire, we build the wired and wireless foundation that every modern smart home depends on.

A network is only as good as the systems it carries — and we design both.

The network is the foundation of every smart home system

Every system in a modern smart home runs over the network. Lutron lighting control, Savant and Control4 automation, multi-room audio from Sonos and Bluesound, 4K and 8K home cinema streaming, IP security cameras — every one of these devices depends on a fast, stable, correctly segmented network.

When the network is weak, everything fails: automation commands lag, video buffers mid-stream, security cameras drop offline, and Wi-Fi dead zones appear in the rooms where you need coverage most. A consumer router from your broadband provider was never designed to handle the traffic load of a fully automated home with 40, 60, or 100+ connected devices.

This is why we design the network before specifying a single automation device. It is the infrastructure layer that makes everything else possible — and it is where every Modal AV project begins.

Wired network and structured cabling

Structured cabling is the backbone of every network we install. From a central communications hub — a neat, ventilated rack or enclosure — dedicated Cat6 or Cat6a cable runs extend in a star topology to every room that needs a wired connection. Each run is professionally terminated, tested, and labelled so that future changes are simple.

For new-build and renovation projects, we work alongside M&E contractors at first-fix stage to lay cables within walls before plastering. For existing properties, we route through lofts, risers, and existing voids — or use discreet micro-trunking when surface-running is the only option.

Cat6, Cat6a and fibre: the right cable for each job

Cat6 delivers 1Gbps and is the standard for most room endpoints. Cat6a supports 10Gbps over full 100-metre runs and is specified for AV rack connections, home cinema feeds, and high-traffic backbone links where future bandwidth growth is certain. For runs between buildings — garden offices, annexes, outbuildings — we use fibre optic cable, which eliminates distance and interference limitations. We specify quality cable from Belden, Nexans, and CommScope as standard.

Whole-home Wi-Fi design and installation

Every wireless installation begins with a site survey. We test signal propagation through your actual walls and materials, identify dead spots and interference sources, and produce a heat map showing exactly where access points need to go. This data-driven approach eliminates guesswork and ensures seamless coverage from basement to attic, garden to garage.

Our access points support seamless roaming on a single SSID — your device hands off automatically as you move through the property. Unlike consumer mesh systems (Google Nest, Eero, BT Whole Home), enterprise access points are wired back to the switch, so every AP delivers full bandwidth with no wireless relay loss. We configure VLANs, guest networks, QoS, and parental controls as standard.

Enterprise Wi-Fi 6: UniFi, Ruckus, and Pakedge

Ubiquiti UniFi is our most commonly specified platform for residential projects — a full ecosystem covering networking, CCTV, and access control with an excellent performance-to-cost ratio. Ruckus is preferred for very large or architecturally challenging properties, where its BeamFlex+ adaptive antenna technology delivers exceptional coverage. UniFi is a premium residential brand with built-in remote monitoring, ideal for managed SMARTmaintenance projects. We are brand-agnostic and specify the right system for each property.

Network installation areas

We install home networks across London and the Home Counties from our base in Maidenhead, Berkshire. Our engineers regularly work in properties throughout the Thames Valley, South Oxfordshire, Surrey, Buckinghamshire, and Hertfordshire.

Why choose Modal AV for your home network?

CEDIA-accredited1

CEDIA is the international quality standard for AV and smart home installers. Our accreditation is independently verified, not self-declared.

Multi-brand certified2

Control4 Gold, Lutron, Savant, Crestron, KNX. We specify the right product for your property, not the one with the highest margin.

Smart home first3

We design the network as part of the complete smart home system, not as an isolated IT project. That means your cabling, switching, and wireless are all optimised for the devices they will carry.

Pricing transparency4

We provide indicative costs at consultation stage, before asking for your time on a full site survey.

SMARTmaintenance5

Our branded support programme means installation day is the beginning of the relationship, not the end.

SMARTmaintenance: network support after installation

Your network is infrastructure — it deserves to be treated like infrastructure. Our SMARTmaintenance programme includes remote monitoring, firmware updates, security patches, and remote diagnostics. We can see your network’s health without visiting your property, and most issues are resolved remotely within hours.

Plans range from monthly remote monitoring through to a full annual on-site review with hardware health checks and performance benchmarking. Whether you have a single access point or a multi-building estate network, we keep it running at peak performance.
